Inside track on roller coasters

Courtesy of the A. V. Club, here’s a link to a fascinating interview with a ride manager for a major chain of amusement parks. A few of the insights:

  • Park operators treat major rides like “anchor” stores at malls: as a way to attract customers and to direct traffic throughout the property;
  • Old-fashioned, classic rides like the “Flying Eagle” (which sounds remarkably like¬†Our Brothers’¬†“Magic Carpet”) are making a comeback among parks aiming for a nostalgia angle;
  • Speaking of nostalgia: dead rides will often get a big boost in popularity as soon as the parks announce they’re going to take them down. Go figure.

Enjoy!
